Elly De La Cruz did his Elly De La Cruz thing on Tuesday night at Dodger Stadium, unleashing a record-shattering 102 mph laser from short center field to the plate to take away a would-be inside-the-park home run from Teoscar Hernández. That's basically a Jacob Misiorowski fastball from almost 200 feet away.
You simply do not see triple-digit arm strengths from infielders like that … infielders not named "Elly De La Cruz," that is.
But De La Cruz is one of a kind -- and this relay throw was a one-of-a-kind throw. It's the hardest tracked assist by an infielder in the entire Statcast era, which goes back to 2015.
Elly broke his own record.
Actually, he broke all his own records. The whole top five is all De La Cruz missiles.
Other rocket-armed infielders have come close to triple digits over the years, like Oneil Cruz and Masyn Winn and shortstop-era Fernando Tatis Jr. But Elly is in a league of his own.
