Radio voice Nadel extended through 2022

November 2nd, 2020

ARLINGTON -- Rangers broadcaster Eric Nadel has agreed to a two-year contract extension that will keep him behind the radio microphone through the 2022 season.

Nadel recently completed his 42nd season with Texas, his 26th as the lead voice on radio broadcasts. He teamed with Mark Holtz for 13 years before becoming the Rangers' lead radio voice in 1995. He is the second-longest tenured broadcaster for one team in the Major Leagues behind only Denny Matthews, who just completed his 53rd season with the Royals.

"I am looking forward to broadcasting games with fans in the ballpark at Globe Life Field, hoping that will be next year,” Nadel said. “And 2022 will be the Rangers' 50th anniversary season, which I definitely want to be a part of. After that, I don't know. After 2022, I will see how I feel about going further."

Nadel will again team with Matt Hicks, while Jared Sandler will serve as the backup and studio host. Nadel is scheduled to do 127 games next season and 117 in 2022. Nadel and his wife, Jeannie, have homes in both Dallas and Durango, Colo.

"The Rangers have been very generous and understanding in letting me scale back the number of games I do,” Nadel said. “I can spend more time doing the other things I enjoy without having to retire. And this way, Matt and Jared get to do more games together. Rangers fans have come to realize that they are a great broadcast team."

Nadel was the 2014 winner of the Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence in baseball and is an eight-time winner of the Texas Sportscaster of the Year Award, given by the National Sports Media Association.

A native of Brooklyn and graduate of Brown University, Nadel broadcast Minor League hockey and women’s professional basketball prior to joining the Rangers in 1979. During his time with Texas, Nadel has become fluent in Spanish, as he's traveled extensively to Latin America and has broadcast games in several countries across the region.
