The Eugene Emeralds completed their perfect postseason run on Tuesday night in an unusual manner, pairing a two-out, bases-loaded walk with a walk-off balk to complete a three-game sweep of Spokane in the best-of-5 Northwest League championship series.

The NWL title was the second in three years for the Cubs-affiliated Emeralds, who defeated their opponent by a 3-2 score in all but one of their postseason victories.

Eugene struck first in Tuesday's contest, pushing across a run in the first inning on a Spokane infield error.
Indians third baseman Sherten Apostel hit an RBI single to even the score, and then put Spokane ahead with a solo home run two innings later.
That score would hold until the bottom of the ninth inning, when the Emeralds loaded the bases with two outs before rallying for two runs against Spokane reliever Emmanuel Clase. Eugene third baseman Andy Weber coaxed a six-pitch walk to push across the game-tying run, while a balk by Clase with Nelson Velazquez batting allowed Yonathan Perlaza to score the title-clinching run.

Eugene completed its undefeated postseason run despite finishing with the Northwest League's worst regular-season record, at 31-45.
The Emeralds swept the circuit's top team, Hillsboro (51-25), in the best-of-3 semifinals, winning both games 3-2 en route to the championship round.
Levi Jordan played the hero in the finals' opener, as it was his solo homer in the eighth inning that helped power the Emeralds to a 3-2 victory. In Game 2, Jack Patterson, Eugenio Palma and Sean Barry combined to throw a four-hitter as the Emeralds blanked Spokane, 4-0.
Altogether, Emeralds relievers did not allow a run in the entire postseason, collectively tossing 25 scoreless frames across five games.
