Eugenio Suárez was scratched from Friday night’s lineup with mid-back pain.
Originally penciled into the lineup in the Reds’ matchup against the Tigers at Great American Ball Park, Suárez was replaced by Nathaniel Lowe at designated hitter.
The 34-year-old Suárez has a .663 OPS and three home runs in 25 games this season. While Suárez and much of the Reds' offense has struggled to get going, Cincinnati finds itself tied for first place in a hypercompetitive NL Central with a 16-9 record. The Reds’ series against the 14-12 Tigers figures to be one of the best series of the weekend.
