Rockies shortstop Ezequiel Tovar, who has been on the injured list since early June due to a left oblique strain, began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Albuquerque on Saturday night.
Tovar started the Isotopes’ 12-3 loss against the El Paso Chihuahuas at shortstop and went 0-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts before being replaced in the sixth inning.
Tovar is scheduled to play for Albuquerque again on Sunday and Monday.
Following a sophomore season in which he led the National League with 45 doubles, connected for 26 home runs and won his first career Gold Glove Award, Tovar has had a disjointed 2025 campaign to this point due to injuries. Prior to the oblique strain, he was in the IL from mid-April to mid-May due to a hip issue.
Tovar has hit .258/.301/.406 with three homers in 138 plate appearances for the Rockies this season..
