The Miami Marlins MLB Youth Academy’s Fall Rookies Program reached a new milestone in 2026, welcoming a record 197 registered athletes and demonstrating growing demand for free youth baseball and softball programming in South Florida.
Registration for the fall program surpassed last year’s total of 131 athletes within just 48 hours, representing an approximately 50% year-over-year increase in participation. The record response reflects the Academy’s growing reach and the continued demand from families for accessible opportunities that keep young athletes connected to baseball and softball.
The Fall Rookies Program is a free, seasonal baseball and softball program for local children that runs from the first week of September through the week before Thanksgiving. Participants take part in two team practices each week, held Monday through Thursday, along with games on Saturday mornings. The program focuses on building baseball and softball fundamentals through consistent practices and game experience in a fun and supportive environment.
The program combines consistent instruction and game experience in a fun, supportive environment designed to build fundamentals, teamwork and confidence. Programming has traditionally included Tee Ball for ages 5-6, Coach Pitch for ages 7-9, Kid Pitch for ages 10-12 and Softball for ages 7-12. In 2026, the Academy expanded the program with a new division for athletes ages 13-15, creating an additional pathway for participants to remain engaged in the game as they grow.
As part of the Academy’s year-round programming, Fall Rookies gives young athletes an opportunity to continue learning, competing and developing their skills during the fall season while building teamwork, confidence and a deeper connection to baseball and softball.
Operated through a partnership between the Miami Marlins Foundation and the City of Hialeah Parks & Recreation, the Miami Marlins MLB Youth Academy provides free baseball and softball programming for youth ages 5 to 18 throughout South Florida. Through seasonal programs, instruction and competitive opportunities, the Academy serves as a community hub where the next generation of players can develop their skills and deepen their connection to the game.
