CHICAGO -- A man who jumped out of the Wrigley Field bleachers in right-center and landed on the warning track during a rain delay prior to Thursday night's game was taken to the hospital.
"Prior to tonight's game, a fan was injured after attempting to jump onto the field from the Wrigley Field bleachers," the Cubs said in a statement. "The fan was taken by paramedics to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. We are unable to provide further comment on his condition at this time. We will remain in contact with the fan's family to stay updated on his progress."
The man was able to clear the chain-link basket that rims the top of the bleachers. The basket was added in 1970 to keep fans from interfering with fly balls or falling onto the field.
The man lay motionless on the warning track for several minutes. Medical staff then attended to him, and he was put on a stretcher and carted off the field. Cubs pitching coach Chris Bosio and outfielder Albert Almora Jr. walked to where the man was being treated to check on him as well.
