Foster Griffin named National League All-Star

July 11th, 2026

Washington Nationals left-handed pitcher Foster Griffin has been added to the National League All-Star Team and joins shortstop CJ Abrams and outfielder James Wood in representing the organization in the 2026 Major League All-Star Game in Philadelphia.

Griffin, 30, ranks in the National League in wins (3rd, 10), WHIP (3rd, 1.02), win percentage (3rd, .833), innings pitched (6th, 110.1), opponents’ batting average (6th, .210), walks per 9.0 innings (7th, 2.12), ERA (9th, 2.77) and strikeouts (10th, 109). In all, he is 10-2 with a 2.77 ERA in 19 starts this season and has issued just 26 walks in in 110.1 innings of work.

Signed by the Nationals as a free agent on December 22, 2025, Griffin’s addition to the National League roster gives the Nationals (2005-pres.) three or more All-Stars for the sixth time and the first time since 2021 when Max Scherzer, Kyle Schwarber, Juan Soto and Trea Turner all represented Washington at the Mid-Summer Classic in Colorado.

Griffin leads Major League Baseball with a 1.25 ERA (6 ER/43.1 IP) since June 5, and following his start on July 8, has worked seven consecutive starts allowing one run or less. Excluding openers, it is the longest streak of starts with one run allowed or less in Nationals history (2005-pres.).

Griffin has pitched five games this season in which he threw 7.0 or more innings and allowed one earned run or less. Only fellow National League All-Stars Cristopher Sánchez (7), Eduardo Rodriguez (6), Logan Webb (6) and Yoshinobu Yamamoto (6) have pitched more games of 7.0-plus innings and allowed one earned run or less in all of Major League Baseball.
