Left hand pain forces Cervelli's exit

June 11th, 2016

PITTSBURGH -- Catcher Francisco Cervelli left in the bottom of the fourth inning of the Pirates' 9-3, extra-inning loss to the Cardinals on Friday after talking it over with manager Clint Hurdle and an athletic trainer.
It was announced that Cervelli left the game due to left hand pain. He seemed to injure or irritate his hand toward the back of his final swing before exiting.
Backup catcher Chris Stewart entered the game to pinch-hit for Cervelli and remained in the game.
According to Hurdle, Cervelli didn't give any detail on his injury in the moment -- he just knew he was in pain.
"None other than it hurt. ... Not really anything else other than where the pain was," Hurdle said.
