NEW YORK -- The game all but lost, Francisco Lindor dived to his right, took a potential multi-RBI hit away from David Hamilton, then pounded his chest and gazed up at the crowd.
It has been a difficult year for Lindor, just as it has been for the Mets. For a moment, though, he showed the Citi Field crowd a glimpse of what could have been.
Lindor, who hit a game-tying homer earlier in the Mets’ 3-2 walk-off win in 10 innings over the Brewers on Tuesday, was in the right place at the right time when Austin Warren and Jefry Yan combined to blow a save and load the bases with two outs in the ninth. That’s when Hamilton hit a looping liner toward the hole on the left side, where Lindor went full extension to snare it.
Half an inning later, Lindor singled with two outs but was picked off first base, sending the game to extras. In the 10th, Jonathan Pintaro escaped a two-on, two-out jam before Christopher Morel hit a bases-loaded ground ball to third base, where Hamilton threw well wide of home to allow Lindor to score the winning run.
Rookie Zac Thornton held the Brewers to one run over six innings but took a no-decision, lowering his ERA to 2.88.
