LOS ANGELES -- First baseman Freddie Freeman is day to day after exiting Wednesday night's 4-2 win over the Royals after tumbling into the visitors' dugout while trying to catch an Isaac Collins foul ball in the eighth inning.
Collins hit a high foul ball to the right side of the infield with one out in the top of the eighth. Freeman tracked the ball as it flew, reaching the warning track just in front of the dugout stairs. When the ball was nearly in reach, Freeman ranged to his left to make the snag but stepped onto the stairs, plunging into the Royals' dugout.
Freeman was down for several moments, but after being checked on by the training staff, he initially remained in the game at first base. He was pinch-hit for when his spot in the lineup came up first in the bottom of the eighth inning.
Freeman took the brunt of the impact on the right side of his body.
Freeman is experiencing "total body soreness," manager Dave Roberts said. "We really dodged a bullet."
