BALTIMORE -- Padres catcher Freddy Fermin was placed on the 7-day injured list (concussion) Sunday and catcher Blake Hunt had his contract selected from Triple-A El Paso.
To make room on the 40-man roster, the Padres have designated for assignment right-hander Ty Adcock.
Adcock was 1-0 with a 7.15 ERA in 11 Minor League games (one start) this season with three affiliates, compiling 15 strikeouts and six walks.
Fermin exited Saturday’s contest against the Orioles in the middle of the sixth inning after a Yuki Matsui warmup pitch spiked in front of the plate and hit him in the catcher’s mask. Fermin was replaced by catcher Rodolfo Dúran.
The 27-year-old Hunt was hitting .269 with two doubles, a homer and five RBIs in 26 at-bats over eight games for El Paso. He is a Padres 2017 Competitive Balance Round B Draft pick and has played in 552 Minor League games. The Santa Ana, Calif., native will be making his Major League debut when he enters a game. Hunt will wear jersey No. 26.
