Red Sox put ace Crochet on IL with shoulder inflammation

The Red Sox placed ace left-hander on the 15-day injured list on Wednesday with left shoulder inflammation. Infielder/outfielder was recalled from Triple-A Worcester in a corresponding move.

Crochet has gotten off to an uncharacteristically slow start this year after finishing as the runner-up in the 2025 AL Cy Young voting, going 3-3 with a 6.30 ERA and a 1.47 WHIP over his first six outings. His stats were bloated by an April 13 start in Minnesota when he allowed 11 runs (10 earned) and recorded just five outs, though he bounced back with six scoreless innings in his last start on Saturday in Baltimore.

Eaton, 29, has played 113 games in the Majors with the Royals and Red Sox from 2022-25, including hitting .296 with a .731 OPS in 41 games with Boston last season. He was hitting .292 in Triple-A with five doubles, one triple, three home runs and an .831 OPS.
