NEW YORK -- The Mets finalized Mickey Callaway's inaugural coaching staff on Wednesday, announcing a mix of experienced coaches with ties to Callaway and each other.
Gary DiSarcina, 49, will serve as Callaway's bench coach, hopping over from the same position in Boston. A former All-Star Angels infielder, DiSarcina also served as third-base coach for the Halos from 2013-14.
Dave Eiland, the former Yankees and Royals pitching coach, will serve in the same role with the Mets. Eiland and Callaway were teammates in the Rays organization from 1998-2001, spending time in the big leagues together in '99. Eiland, 51, led the Royals to the American League ERA title in '13, and he won World Series titles with the Royals in '15 and the Yankees in '09.
Pat Roessler, the only member of Terry Collins' former staff to earn a direct promotion, will move from assistant hitting coach to hitting coach. Roessler spent three seasons under Kevin Long, who left the organization when the Mets did not hire him as manager.
Ruben Amaro Jr., the former Phillies general manager, joins the staff as first-base coach after spending the past two years in that role for the Red Sox. He was teammates with DiSarcina for parts of three Minor League seasons, bringing further familiarity to Callaway's staff.
Rounding out the group are bullpen coach Ricky Bones and third-base coach Glenn Sherlock, two holdovers from Collins' staff, and assistant hitting coach Tom Slater, who worked alongside Roessler earlier this decade with the Yankees.
