Astros outfielder George Springer, who was forced to leave the Astros' 11-4 win over the Angels on Monday when he was hit on the left elbow by a pitch, isn’t in the lineup for either game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Angels. Manager Dusty Baker said Springer could be used as a defensive replacement but can’t hit.
Springer was hit by a 95-mph fastball from Angels pitcher Jacob Barnes and immediately crumpled to his knees in pain. He went to first base before leaving the game. X-rays were negative.
Springer missed five consecutive games Aug. 7-11 with right wrist soreness, and he has gone 0-for-13 since taking a five-game hitting streak into Saturday’s game. He’s batting .193 with four homers and 15 RBIs this season.
