Springer (elbow) won't bat until at least Friday

August 25th, 2020

Astros outfielder , who was forced to leave the Astros' 11-4 win over the Angels on Monday when he was hit on the left elbow by a pitch, isn’t in the lineup for either game of Tuesday’s doubleheader against the Angels. Manager Dusty Baker said Springer could be used as a defensive replacement but can’t hit.

Since Wednesday and Thursday's games against the Angels were rescheduled due to Hurricane Laura, Springer will have three days off before potentially returning to the lineup on Friday against Oakland.

Springer was hit by a 95-mph fastball from Angels pitcher Jacob Barnes and immediately crumpled to his knees in pain. He went to first base before leaving the game. X-rays were negative.

Springer missed five consecutive games Aug. 7-11 with right wrist soreness, and he has gone 0-for-13 since taking a five-game hitting streak into Saturday’s game. He’s batting .193 with four homers and 15 RBIs this season.
