JUPITER, Fla. -- Giancarlo Stanton scorched a two-run homer and J.T. Realmuto blasted a three-run shot on Friday night in the Marlins' 7-1 win over the Tigers at Roger Dean Stadium.
Announced as Miami's fifth starter before the game, Adam Conley threw four shutout innings, allowing one hit, while striking out two and walking two. In the sixth inning, Jose Cabrera belted a home run to right-center for the Tigers. It was his first of the spring.
"I think since he's returned [from the World Baseball Classic], he's had a lot better sense of the strike zone, it seems like," Marlins manager Don Mattingly said of Stanton. "He's looked good."
Tigers right-hander Jordan Zimmermann allowed four runs in three innings, striking out two in his final tuneup before the regular season.
In the first inning, Christian Yelich doubled with two outs to bring up Stanton, who crushed a no-doubt, two-run shot over the batter's eye beyond the wall in center.
"It was a slider that I really didn't set up," Zimmermann said. "I threw a fastball away, then a slider probably on the outer third. He's going to hit that pitch."
The Marlins tacked on two more runs in the second inning. Adeiny Hechavarria had a run-scoring single and Conley lifted a sacrifice fly to left to give Miami a four-run cushion.
Zimmermann capped his night by retiring the side in order in the third, striking out Yelich and Stanton before exiting after 57 pitches.
"[Stanton's] last at-bat, I went three or four heaters into him and then a slider away to put him away," Zimmerman said.
Tigers up next: The Tigers complete Grapefruit League play at 12:05 p.m. ET Saturday when they meet the Marlins again at Roger Dean Stadium. Left-hander Daniel Norris gets the start for the spring finale, which will be broadcast live on Gameday Audio.
Marlins up next: Miami's No. 4 starter Wei-Yin Chen gets the ball for the game against the Tigers, which marks the Marlins' spring finale as well. Most of the Marlins regulars will start, but not play too long. A.J. Ellis will catch.
