SAN FRANCISCO -- Giants left fielder Angel Pagan's strained left hamstring has improved enough for the Giants to leave him on the active roster instead of placing him on the disabled list Monday, which had been mentioned as a possibility.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy said Pagan, who missed San Francisco's previous seven games entering Monday, could rejoin the starting lineup during this weekend's four-game series at Arizona if his physical condition continued to progress. Bochy also deemed Pagan eligible to pinch-hit Monday as the Giants opened an Interleague series against Toronto, though he would need a pinch-runner if he were to reach base safely.
"It's coming along," Pagan said, expressing cautious optimism. "I don't want to rush things."
Echoed Bochy, "We're not pushing him."
Before Pagan sustained his injury May 1 in New York, he hit .315 with a .366 on-base percentage. Despite missing more than a week, he's tied with Joe Panik for third among the Giants in runs scored with 17, close behind Hunter Pence's team-leading total of 19.
