Giants set 25-man roster for Opening Day

April 3rd, 2016

OAKLAND -- The same 25 Giants players who essentially locked up roster spots days ago were formally announced as the club's Opening Day group following the exhibition finale in Oakland.
The Giants will open the season with 13 pitchers, opting for eight relievers behind a formidable rotation: Madison Bumgarner, Johnny Cueto, Jeff Samardzija, Jake Peavy and Matt Cain.

The bullpen will consist of closer Santiago Casilla and fellow right-handers Sergio Romo, George Kontos, Hunter Strickland, Cory Gearrin and Chris Heston, and left-handers Javier Lopez and Josh Osich.
Catcher Trevor Brown will act as the backup to Buster Posey, forming a four-man bench that also includes outfielder Gregor Blanco and infielders Kelby Tomlinson and Ehire Adrianza.
Worth noting
Posey was scratched from Saturday's game because of an illness, but manager Bruce Bochy said, "I hope he's good to go Monday."
"I hope this isn't a bad or severe case, whatever it is," Bochy said. "It could be the flu. He said last night he thought he was coming down with something."
