Crawford returning to Giants after rehab stint

May 10th, 2017

NEW YORK -- Shortstop is expected to rejoin the Giants on Wednesday, though he might not be activated from the disabled list immediately.
Sidelined since April 25 with a strained right groin, Crawford went 3-for-5 Tuesday in his second injury rehabilitation game with the Giants' Double-A Richmond affiliate. Richmond defeated Altoona, 14-5.

Crawford played seven innings Tuesday, an inning longer than his Monday stint. The two-time reigning National League Gold Glove Award winner had said he wanted to evaluate his recovery while playing at game speed.
Giants manager Bruce Bochy elaborated little about bringing back Crawford, refusing to reveal whether the Giants would run more fitness tests, start him in the series finale against the Mets or if he'd simply rest for another day.
• Center fielder (sternoclavicular joint sprain) played five innings in a rehab game with Class A Advanced San Jose on Tuesday, going 0-for-2 with a walk.
