ST. LOUIS -- Though Jarrett Parker started his fourth game in a row in right field Sunday since Hunter Pencewent to the disabled list with a torn right hamstring tendon, Giants manager Bruce Bochy still plans on giving other players a chance to gain increased activity at the position.
That means Mac Williamson or Kelby Tomlinson could soon see some activity, unless Parker quickly improves upon his 2-for-12 showing thus far in his third promotion of the season.
"They're all going to get a shot," Bochy said.
The definition of a "shot" can vary, though. Traditionally that consists of about 100 at-bats. But with the Giants striving to maintain first place in the National League West, Bochy doesn't have time to allocate 25 consecutive games apiece to Williamson and Tomlinson.

• Pence will undergo surgery to remove his torn right hamstring tendon this Thursday in Dallas. The procedure will be conducted by Dr. Dan Cooper, the head team physician for the Dallas Cowboys. Giants head athletic trainer Dave Groeschner said that Pence will undergo a preparatory examination conducted by Cooper on Wednesday.
• Right-hander Matt Cain threw off a bullpen mound and likely will pitch a simulated game Wednesday, Bochy said. Cain is eligible to be activated from the disabled list next Sunday.
• Bochy said that right-hander Sergio Romo (right flexor tendon) played catch on flat ground and left fielder Angel Pagan (left hamstring) ran at about 80 percent of full force.
