PHILADELPHIA -- The Giants tapped into their bullpen depth to fill another position of need, acquiring middle infield prospect Mauricio Dubon from the Brewers in exchange for left-hander Drew Pomeranz and right-hander Ray Black, it was announced. San Francisco sent Mark Melancon to the Braves for right-handers Dan Winkler and Tristan Beck, and it also dealt righty Sam Dyson to Minnesota for Jaylin Davis and right-handed pitchers Prelander Berroa and Kai-Wei Teng.

Dubon, 25, is ranked as Milwaukee's No. 3 prospect, according to MLB Pipeline, and can serve as a potential upgrade for the Giants at second base, where incumbent Joe Panik has struggled to provide consistent production this season. A right-handed hitter, Dubon is batting .297 with an .809 OPS and 16 homers for Triple-A San Antonio and debuted with the Brewers earlier this month. Dubon also plays shortstop and has some experience at third base.

Pomeranz, who signed a one-year, $1.5 million deal with the Giants over the offseason, struggled to find his footing in the rotation and was recently moved to the bullpen, but he dominated in four relief outings, striking out eight over 5 1/3 scoreless innings. The 30-year-old veteran will be a free agent at the end of the season.

Black, 29, has spent most of this season at Triple-A Sacramento, logging a 5.16 ERA with 36 strikeouts in 22 2/3 innings. A seventh-round Draft pick by the Giants in 2011, Black posted a 6.04 ERA in 28 Major League appearances while averaging 98 mph on his fastball.
