It may be the most common intrusive thought on the planet in 2026: "Hey, what if I dropped my phone right now?"
It's usually best to put that thought out of your mind, but it does happen, or else the idea wouldn't haunt us like it does. In fact, it happened just the other day at Oracle Park under the same kind of ultra-specific circumstances our brains are conjuring every day. A Bay Area woman was caught up in the excitement of her son catching a ball at his very first Giants game -- an unbelievable parenting win, we can only tip our caps -- when her phone fell onto the warning track.
Obviously, she is hardly the first person to have some personal effect or another tumble over the outfield wall. She alerted park security, who in turn contacted the grounds crew, who quickly returned the (undamaged!) phone. Like it never happened.
It was only later on, when she paused to look through the photos she'd taken throughout the evening, that she noticed a cheerful selfie of four (we presume) strangers in her camera roll -- the members of the Oracle Park grounds crew who had assisted in the rescue operation.
So, to sum up the results of the family's night at the park: A game ball, a phone lost and found unscathed, and a heartwarming, accidentally viral moment. Maybe the most successful ballpark trip anyone has had so far in 2026.
