A slow start might be turning into something better for Marco Luciano. MLB's No. 13 overall prospect homered twice and equaled his career high with three RBIs in Low-A San Jose's 5-4 loss to Fresno Wednesday night. After opening the season 5-for-34 with 10 strikeouts, Luciano has hit safely in three consecutive games, including a pair of multi-hit performances.

The 19-year-old got things going quickly with a one-out homer to right field in the opening frame. Luciano went down swinging in the third and turned around a 3-2 deficit with a two-run shot to center in his next at-bat in the fifth. Looking for the first three-homer game of his career, the Dominican Republic native flied out in his final plate appearance of the game in the eighth. It was the second time Luciano cleared the fences twice in the same game and the first since July 2, 2019.

The power display improved his season OPS to .812, largely on the strength of his last three games, during which he's gone 6-for-11 with four extra-base hits and four RBIs. Overall, Luciano is batting .245/.302/.510 in his first 12 contests of 2021.

Signed as an undrafted free agent in 2018, the shortstop showed tremendous promise as a 17-year-old in 2019, batting .302/.417/.564 in 47 games across two Minor League levels. Luciano homered 10 times among his 25 extra-base hits, drove in 42 runs and walked 32 times.

Colorado's No. 14 prospect, Julio Carreras snapped an 0-for-12 start to his season with an RBI double for Fresno.

On the mound, Rockies 17th-ranked prospect Sam Weatherly struck out 10 over five innings, including six consecutive batters in the third and fourth. The 21-year-old was charged with four runs on four hits and two walks in his third career start.
