NEW YORK -- Shortstop was reinstated from the 10-day disabled list after the Giants' 6-5 victory Thursday over the Mets, virtually guaranteeing that he'll rejoin San Francisco's lineup for Thursday's four-game series opener against the Reds at AT&T Park.
Crawford, who missed 14 games with a strained right groin, might have been ready to play Wednesday against the Mets, but the Giants took a cautious approach. Manager Bruce Bochy was told that the Giants might be "putting him at risk" if they asked him to hustle from Richmond, site of the organization's Double-A affiliate where Crawford played two injury rehabilitation games, all the way to New York to play nine innings.
Though Crawford said that he's not completely healed, he said that the lingering discomfort is "stuff I can play through." Playing six and seven innings with Richmond on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, tested Crawford's ability to function on the field sufficiently, he said.
With Crawford still officially on the DL, the Giants recalled right-hander from Richmond to give them a full 25-man complement for Wednesday's series finale against the Mets. Moronta was optioned back to Richmond after the game.
Moronta, who filled the roster void created by closer 's move to the disabled list with a mild pronator strain, owned a 3.18 ERA with five saves for Richmond. The fastball-slider specialist also had 17 strikeouts in 11 1/3 innings.

homered in his third consecutive game, matching a career best that he most recently reached June 25-28, 2013. Outfielder was the last Giant to homer in three games in a row, Sept. 23-26, 2015.
