Giants invite mix of big names, youth to camp

Non-roster list includes Rollins, Morse, top prospects

SAN FRANCISCO -- Heavy samplings of prospects and veterans are included in the Giants' contingent of 28 non-roster invitees to Major League Spring Training camp, which the club released Wednesday.
The Giants already have named most players in this group, which has proven to be significant. Among the non-roster invitees who made the Opening Day squad in recent years were outfielder Andres Torres (2009), right-hander Guillermo Mota (2010-11) and outfielder (2012).
It's not a stretch to call San Francisco's non-roster list a star-studded one. It features shortstop , the National League MVP in 2007 when he starred with the Philadelphia Phillies, and outfielder , who contributed to the Giants' 2014 World Series-winning effort.
Others with big league experience are outfielder , infielders and Chris Marrero and catchers Tim Federowicz and . Left-hander Matt Reynolds made eight relief appearances for the Giants last year. And Korean third baseman signed a Minor League contract but will receive an opportunity to win a Major League job.
Right-hander Tyler Beede and infielder Christian Arroyo, ranked 88th and 89th, respectively, on MLBPipeline.com's list of baseball's Top 100 prospects, were invited to big league camp.

Non-roster invitees ranked on MLBPipeline.com's most recent list of the organization's Top 30 prospects are right-hander Sam Coonrod (fifth), catcher Aramis Garcia (sixth), right-hander (seventh), left-hander Andrew Suarez (eighth), outfielder Steven Duggar (10th), shortstop C.J. Hinojosa (13th) and outfielder Austin Slater (22nd).
Giants pitchers and catchers are due to report to camp in Scottsdale, Ariz., on Feb. 13. They'll have their first workout the next day. Reporting date for position players is Feb. 16, one day before the initial full-squad workout.
