ST. PETERSBURG -- Giants reliever Sergio Romo had his first rehab appearance Friday night for Class A Advanced San Jose. He pitched a scoreless inning and even struck out Dodgers outfielder Yasiel Puig, who was also rehabbing. Romo also allowed a walk and a base hit.
Giants manager Bochy said the reliever will have a few more benchmarks to hit, like pitching on back-to-back days, before coming off the disabled list. Romo is scheduled to pitch in San Jose again on Sunday. He'll also pitch in Triple-A Sacramento, but didn't rule out pitching in the Giants' next homestand.
Romo has been on the DL since April 15 with a flexor strain in his pitching arm. He made three rehab appearances in Sacramento earlier before a setback changed the plans.
"My hope is to use him like we normally use him," Bochy said. "With that said, we'll have to monitor his workload, especially in the early going to see how he bounces back."
Peavy ready to go
After getting pushed back a day due to a stiff neck, Giants starter Jake Peavy says he's all good to go on Sunday against the Rays. Bochy said the 35-year-old former Cy Young Award winner could have probably pitched on regular rest on Saturday, but Albert Suarez got the nod instead.

Peavy spent the past 24 hours getting treatment and playing some catch. The veteran last pitched against the Dodgers last Sunday, and he removed himself after throwing six scoreless innings.
"Been in the training room getting ready for tomorrow," Peavy said Saturday. "I don't think there will be any issue tomorrow."
Peavy is 3-6 with a 5.83 ERA this season.
