SAN FRANCISCO -- The Giants cleared another spot on their 40-man roster on Sunday by trading infielder to the Nationals in exchange for Minor League left-hander Tony Neubeck.

Furman, 25, spent most of the 2026 season at Triple-A Sacramento, where he batted .293 with a .791 OPS and seven home runs over 102 games. He made his Major League debut with the Giants on Aug. 1 and appeared in 22 games down the stretch, batting .125 (4-for-32) with three RBIs over 39 plate appearances.

While he has an intriguing track record of production in the Minors, Furman didn’t have a clear path to regular playing time in San Francisco next year. He was stuck behind Casey Schmitt, Marcelo Mayer, Jonah Cox and Christian Koss on the second-base depth chart, prompting the Giants to move him ahead of Monday’s deadline to reinstate players off the 60-day injured list.

Catcher also cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday, leaving the Giants with a projected 49 players on their 40-man roster. Sixteen of those players are on the 60-day IL and don’t presently count against the limit, but the Giants will have to clear roster space for most of them within the next 24 hours.

Neubeck, 23, pitched at Indiana before signing with the Nationals as an undrafted free agent on Aug. 25, 2026. The 6-foot-2 hurler made two appearances at Single-A Fredericksburg after turning pro, allowing only two hits while striking out eight over six scoreless innings.
