Urshela, Arcia highlight Twins' list of Spring Training NRIs

MINNEAPOLIS -- Just a few days before camp opens, the Twins announced their full list of non-roster invitees to Spring Training on Monday. The list is headed by top prospects and a couple of veteran infielders.

Some of the names were already known, so the most prominent new name to be revealed was , who played third base for the Twins in 2022. The other best known Major Leaguer on the list is infielder , who will hope to catch on as Minnesota's backup shortstop.

The odds would appear to be against Urshela, who is mostly limited to third base, first base and DH at this point, to make a roster that has established starters at first and third, and a good deal of corner depth. Arcia likely has a better chance, since there’s no clear top shortstop option behind Brooks Lee.

Six of the non-roster invitees appeared in the Major Leagues last year: Urshela, Arcia, catcher David Bañuelos, and pitchers Dan Altavilla, Matt Bowman and Grant Hartwig.

Top prospects Walker Jenkins (MLB Pipeline's No. 14 overall prospect) and Kaelen Culpepper (No. 52) also received NRIs, with each participating in his first Major League camp.

Here's the full list of non-roster invitees:

Pitchers: Altavilla, Trent Baker, Andrew Bash, Bowman, Raul Brito, Matt Canterino, Hartwig, Cory Lewis, Christian MacLeod

Catchers: Bañuelos, Noah Cardenas, Andrew Cossetti, Ricardo Olivar, Patrick Winkel

Infielders: Arcia, Culpepper, Aaron Sabato, Tanner Schobel, Urshela

Outfielders: Kyler Fedko, Jenkins, Kala’i Rosario
