For CC Sabathia, pitching in for his community is as important as pitching for the Yankees.
Sabathia and his wife, Amber, established the PitCCh In Foundation in 2008. With a mission to enrich the lives of inner-city kids, the foundation developed three signature programs -- the All-Star Baseball Clinic, Youth Backpack Program and CC Holiday Caravan.
The signature programs remain in place today, but the foundation has grown beyond the scope of these programs.
The PIF also renovates baseball fields, awards scholarships and holds various fundraising events. Recently, the foundation renovated the Claremont Park baseball field in the Bronx, New York.
Sabathia holds an annual free baseball camp for kids in Vallejo, the Northern California city where Sabathia graduated high school. The North Vallejo Little League (NVLL) partnered with the PIF to establish the All-Star Baseball Clinic. The clinic introduces baseball to a new generation of girls and boys ages 5 to 12.
Sabathia takes photos with the campers, participates in drills, signs autographs and holds a question-and-answer session during the clinic.
Even when his Major League season starts, Sabathia's charity work continues with a charity basketball game -- the Roc Nation Summer Classic -- which will be held July 21 at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
Robinson Cano of the Mariners, singer Nick Jonas and professional boxer Miguel Cotto will serve as captains of the other teams. Proceeds from the event will support each team captain's charity.
