DENVER -- Greg Holland, who recorded a franchise-tying 41 saves for the Rockies in 2017 after missing '16 because of Tommy John surgery, was named National League Comeback Player of the Year on Friday.
Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas, once a teammate of Holland's in Kansas City, won the American League award.

Holland, currently a free agent, was an All-Star with the Royals from 2013-14 and amassed 93 saves during that stretch. In '15, he pitched in pain and earned 32 saves through September before undergoing the procedure on his right elbow. He did not participate in the postseason, which resulted in the Royals winning the World Series.
After spending the 2016 season rehabbing, Holland signed with the Rockies last winter and was a key to the club earning its first postseason berth since '09.
The 32-year-old's contributions were especially important early. He earned NL Relief Pitcher of the Month presented by The Hartford in April and May, and by the All-Star break, he had converted all but one of his 29 save opportunities. Holland also made his third Midsummer Classic appearance, striking out two during a scoreless inning.

Holland endured a difficult eight-game stretch in August (three blown saves, 14 runs in 6 1/3 innings), but by posting a 1.69 ERA over his final 11 outings, he helped the Rockies secure the second NL Wild Card spot.
Holland's save total tied him with the Dodgers' Kenley Jansen for the NL lead. Only the Rays' Alex Colome (47) finished with more. Holland also compiled a 3.61 ERA and an MLB-leading 58 games finished.
Moustakas was limited to 27 appearances in 2016 because of a torn right ACL, but he bounced back in '17 to earn his second All-Star Game invitation and set a Royals single-season record with 38 home runs.
