BALTIMORE -- Rays starter exited Tuesday night’s game against the Orioles at Camden Yards after two innings due to a back contusion.

Jax was struck directly in the back by a 107.2 mph line drive off the bat of Leody Taveras in the second inning and went down in obvious pain. After being checked on by manager Kevin Cash and head athletic trainer Joe Benge, Jax threw a warmup pitch and remained in the game.

However, Jax did not return to the mound for the third inning after the three-run, 26-pitch second. Left-hander Garrett Cleavinger replaced the right-hander to begin the third.

According to the Rays, Jax’s status is day to day.
