Although her current hometown of Tampa, Fla., was mostly spared by Hurricane Irma, Hannah Jeter -- the model and wife of Yankees legend Derek Jeter -- took to social media Tuesday to solicit help for her native St. Thomas and the rest of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
In a video posted on her Twitter and Instagram feeds (both @hannahbjeter) and on her Facebook page, Jeter spoke of the devastation the hurricane wrought on her homeland, noting that the local government is overwhelmed in its recovery efforts.
"Right now, the people of the V.I. are without food, water, shelter, medicine and electricity," Jeter said in the video. "They are in bad shape. Our community is doing what they can with the very, very little that they have to help one another. But our infrastructure is gone.

"The amount of damage done to our island is unimaginable. Our local government is just not equipped to handle the situation on their own. We can't let our islands be forgotten. We have to bring attention to them now. We need help."

Hannah and Derek Jeter have been married since July 2016, and they welcomed their first child, Bella Raine, on Aug. 17.
