PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- As a first-year participant in big league camp, Harrison Bader highlighted the Cardinals' 18-hit, 14-11 win over the Mets on Sunday with a four-RBI afternoon.
Bader delivered two singles and a bases-loaded triple to help the Cardinals pile on runs early. He also showcased his speed after lofting a ball beyond Curtis Granderson's glove in center and impressed with his outfield play.
"Exciting player," was how manager Mike Matheny described the organization's fifth-ranked prospect afterward.
Bader is expected to open the year as a Triple-A outfielder, but he has positioned himself to be in the conversation for a callup should the Cardinals have an outfield need in-season.

"It's important to understand that you're just preparing for a season regardless where you break," Bader said. "I've just had that mindset every day I've been up here. I've been exposed to the big league hitting coaches, and they're just doing wonders for me."

Staff news
The Cardinals announced several staff promotions on Sunday, including a move to make former Minor League manager Ron "Pop" Warner the organization's assistant field coordinator. Dane Sorenson (director of baseball development), Jeremy Cohen (director of baseball analysis and systems) Patrick Casanta (manager of baseball systems) and Erick Almonte (Class A Advanced Palm Beach pitching coach) also earned promotions.
The organization has also added these new staff members: Brandon Allen (Rookie-level Johnson City hitting coach), Joshua Lopez (Class A Peoria Chiefs extra coach), Aaron Klinec (Double-A Springfield extra coach), Adrian Martin (Triple-A Memphis extra coach), Emily Wiebe (baseball operations fellow), Travis Tartamella (Minor League catching instructor), Rick Strickland (Minor League hitting consultant) and Mauricio Rubio (northwest amateur area scout).
Odds and ends
• Other than being sore, Matt Adams dodged injury after being hit around his right triceps by a Matt Harvey pitch in the second inning. Jedd Gyorko, who was hit on the arm in Saturday's game, did not play on Sunday but is scheduled to return to the lineup on Monday.
• After an 0-for-4 game against the Mets on Sunday, Yadier Molina started his journey west to meet up with Puerto Rico's World Baseball Classic team.
• While the Cardinals' bus was en route to Port St. Lucie for Sunday's game, Matheny remained back at the team's complex to watch Kevin Siegrist face hitters in live batting practice. According to Matheny, Siegrist "looked really good today" and will likely next face hitters in an actual Grapefruit League game.
• John Gant will make his first spring start on Monday against the Twins in Fort Myers, Fla., now that Trevor Rosenthal (lat soreness) has been sidelined. The Cardinals are stretching Gant out this spring so they have the flexibility to use him as a starter if he doesn't earn a big league bullpen spot.
• The Cardinals moved Jordan Schafer's next scheduled appearance to Monday so that they'd have adequate pitching coverage now that Rosenthal won't be making the trip. Schafer, who is trying to make the roster as a two-way player, has not allowed a run in either of his first two spring appearances.
