Healthcare workers honored Opening Day

July 22nd, 2020

When the Phillies take on the Miami Marlins for Nemours Opening Day, healthcare heroes on the front lines of COVID-19 will have the best seats in the house.

On Friday, July 24, the team is honoring healthcare heroes from Nemours Children’s Health System and Jefferson Health, where they will be part of the Opening Day crowd at Citizens Bank Park, thanks to unique Phillies game faces.

High-resolution photos of doctors, nurses and staff were sent to the Phillies and are currently being printed and adhered to Diamond Club seats directly behind home plate. Each color image cutout will be 18” x 36”, featuring the medical workers in various poses while wearing their respective hospital uniforms and/or Phillies gear.

“We are proud to honor the countless healthcare heroes who have shown extraordinary care and commitment to our community during this pandemic,” said David Buck, Phillies Executive Vice President. “As our broadcast cameras capture the ‘crowd’ on Nemours Opening Day, we want our doctors, nurses and healthcare workers to know that we are so grateful for their sacrifice and courage.”

Hundreds of Phillies game face images will make their debut during Friday’s broadcast of the home opener, which will air 7:05 p.m. on NBC Sports Philadelphia. These heroes will remain in the spotlight for the duration of opening week at Citizens Bank Park.

In the near future, season ticket holders and the general public will be offered the opportunity to also be on a Phillies game face, with net proceeds benefitting Phillies Charities. Each will cost $25 for season ticket holders and $40 for the general public. Details will be forthcoming.
