DENVER -- In the midst of a hot start to the season, Rockies Silver Slugger catcher sustained a right middle finger laceration when he was hit on the right hand by a 95 mph fastball from right-hander Randy Vásquez during the sixth inning of Thursday night’s 7-3 walk-off loss to the Padres in 12 innings.

Before Thursday, Goodman had hits in eight of his first 11 games and reached safely in nine games. He knocked his second homer of the season during Wednesday afternoon’s 9-1 home victory over the Astros but also was hit on the right hand by a pitch from Christian Roa. The impact of Vásquez's pitch left Goodman’s hand bloody.

Goodman, who went 0-for-2 before being hit by the pitch and replaced by Brett Sullivan, became the second catcher in club history to appear in the All-Star Game last season (Elias Diaz was the first in 2023) and the first to win a Silver Slugger. Going into Thursday, among primary catchers in MLB, Goodman ranked first in hits (161), third in home runs (33) and runs scored (82), tied for third in RBIs (95) and was fourth in extra-base hits (67).
