Ichiro reports quad soreness following collision

February 22nd, 2017

JUPITER, Fla. -- A day after being involved in a collision during an outfield drill, Marlins outfielder was dealing with soreness in his quadriceps area, above his right knee.
The 43-year-old sensation was expected to take it easy for a few days before resuming baseball activities.
"Right now, right above the knee hurts the most, but we'll see," Ichiro said Wednesday morning through his interpreter, Allen Turner. "Maybe I'll do some light machine work, and then do some treatment."

Ichiro had never been treated in the training room in his 16-year big league career until Tuesday afternoon, after he collided with during a drill. Ichiro was in center field and Barnes was in right, and the two were pursuing the ball, and both were calling to make the play.
Initially, Ichiro stayed on the field, but he eventually walked slowly off the field to the clubhouse.
Ichiro also tweaked his back on the play, but on Wednesday, he noted his knee was giving him the most trouble.
"I think he will be OK," manager Don Mattingly said. "Sore quad. A little bit sore in the back. He probably feels the quad more today, just because the knee is there. But probably the back is something we'll be sure we get away from as time goes. I feel pretty good about it."
Ichiro was favoring the knee while walking.
The Marlins' fourth outfielder, Ichiro has been on the disabled list just once in his MLB career, in 2009 for a bleeding ulcer.
In 2016, Ichiro made history by becoming the 30th player in MLB history to reach 3,000 hits. He now has 3,030 in his career.
The Marlins remain hopeful Ichiro will be back on the field in a few days.
"I'm just going to take it day by day and see how it feels," Ichiro said.
