Indians to open 2018 in Seattle on March 29

Home opener April 6 vs. Royals; all teams begin season on same day

September 12th, 2017

The Indians released their 2018 schedule on Tuesday morning, and next year's campaign will see the Tribe open its season with a road trip for the fifth time in a six-year span.
Indians' 2018 schedule
After Spring Training in Goodyear, Ariz., the Tribe will open the new season with a six-game trip through Seattle and Anaheim, beginning with its Opening Day matchup with the Mariners on March 29. The Indians' home opener at Progressive Field will come on April 6 against the American League Central-rival Royals.
All 30 teams will open their season on March 29, the earliest Opening Day in Major League history aside from international series.
The Indians' home opener will be the first game of a 10-game homestand that features three games with the Royals (April 6-8), four with the Tigers (April 9-12) and three with the Blue Jays (April 13-15). The opening slate of games at Progressive Field marks one of two 10-game homestands that the Indians will host in 2018 -- the two longest homestands on the schedule.
After its opening set of games in Cleveland, the team will head to San Juan, Puerto Rico, to play a two-game series with the Twins at Hiram Bithorn Stadium from April 17-18, followed by a four-game series with the Orioles in Baltimore.
In Interleague Play, the teams in the AL Central will play the National League Central. The Indians' first Interleague series will open their second homestand of the season and will be a rematch of the 2016 World Series, as they take on the Cubs in a two-game series.
Cleveland's other home Interleague opponents include the Brewers (June 5-6) and the Pirates (July 23-25). The Tribe's Interleague road games will include series with the Brewers (May 8-9), Cubs (May 22-23) and Cardinals (June 25-27). The Indians and the Reds will renew their Ohio Cup rivalry with three-game sets at Cleveland (July 9-11) and at Cincinnati (Aug. 13-15).
The longest road trip of the season is a nine-game swing from June 25-July 4, which includes stops in St. Louis, Oakland and Kansas City. The Indians will then return home for their second 10-game homestand from July 6-15 -- against the Athletics, Reds and Yankees -- which precedes the All-Star break.
Overall, the Tribe's season features six big summer weekends at home, including series with the Twins (June 15-17), Tigers (June 22-24), A's (July 6-8), Yankees (July 13-15), Angels (Aug. 3-5) and Orioles (Aug. 17-19).
The final month of the regular season brings several matchups against AL Central foes, as 13 of the Tribe's final 16 games will come against division rivals. Cleveland will close out its regular season with a four-game set against the Royals at Kauffman Stadium.
