CHICAGO -- Jose Ramirez came into his eighth-inning at-bat in the front end of Monday's doubleheader against the White Sox with only three hits in his past 20 at-bats.
Although the Indians lost, 7-6, Ramirez worked righty reliever Matt Albers for 10 pitches, fouling off three consecutive sinkers before getting one over the plate and sending it into the stands to put his team within striking distance.
"He saw every pitch the guy had, and he had some pretty good swings," Indians manager Terry Francona said. "All of sudden, the pitcher has to make a pretty good pitch because he's seen everything."

In Ramirez's next at-bat, this one in the nightcap, he got a first-pitch fastball over the plate from White Sox righty Erik Johnson and again clocked it for a home run, this one giving his team the early advantage in a 5-1 victory.
Ramirez has only three home runs this season and 11 in his career, but he had two Monday.
Those were his only hits of the day, but they were nonetheless an encouraging sign from Ramirez, who is hitting a rock-solid .293 despite his minor skid.
They also accounted for one-third of the Indians' six homers in the doubleheader, as Mike Napoli, Marlon Byrd, Rajai Davis and Juan Uribe also went deep.
Francona said it's possible Ramirez's long at-bat in Game 1 aided his blast in Game 2. And sometimes all it takes is one at-bat to turn the tide.
"He hasn't had the best week," Francona said. "He's had a little bit of a dry spell, which happens to everybody. But [an at-bat like that] can almost lock you in."
