KC-Cleveland postponed Sunday

Makeup set as part of doubleheader on Sept. 20

July 11th, 2021

CLEVELAND -- The Indians’ All-Star break started a little early.

Due to a day full of rain, the series finale between the Indians and Royals has been postponed and will be made up as a straight doubleheader of two seven-inning games on Sept. 20, beginning at 5:10 p.m. ET. Only fans with tickets to the Sept. 20 contest will be able to attend.

Those who have tickets to Sunday’s game will be able to exchange them for one of 21 game options, including the Sept. 20 doubleheader. Those swaps must be made through fans’ My Indians account by Sept. 10, at noon ET. Exchanges can begin at 9 a.m. ET on Monday. If fans encounter any issues, they can call 216-420-HITS.

The Indians will now have a five-day break before opening the second half of the season in Oakland on Friday for a three-game series. The club was still working through how the rotation would unfold after the break, and Sunday’s rainout will throw another wrench in those plans.

Cleveland is expecting Zach Plesac to pitch a simulated game over the break (up to 75 pitches) to continue to stretch himself back out. Eli Morgan will start the first game in Oakland, followed by Cal Quantrill and Plesac. J.C. Mejia will get the first game in Houston and Triston McKenzie will start Game 2 of that series.

Shane Bieber and Aaron Civale are still a ways away from rejoining the team. Bieber (right shoulder strain) has yet to start his throwing progression and Civale (right middle finger sprain) has been limited to playing light catch. Neither will be ready to open the second half of the season back with the big league team.
