Collins (knee) day to day after running into, tumbling over LF railing

DETROIT -- Royals left fielder left Tuesday night’s 2-1 series-opening loss to the Tigers at Comerica Park in the bottom of the first inning with a right knee contusion.

Collins tracked a ball hit to the opposite field by Tigers third baseman Kevin McGonigle and chased it all-out into the corner. Collins dived into the stands, glove extended, but the ball sailed over his glove.

Collins sat on the concrete flooring of the grandstands before Royals trainer Kyle Turner arrived with manager Matt Quatraro and other teammates. Collins walked to the dugout with a slight limp after a brief examination, and he was replaced by Tyler Tolbert in left.

An X-ray was negative, Quatraro said. Collins, who was out of the starting lineup on Wednesday, is listed as day to day.

“I feel pretty good,” Collins said before Wednesday's game against the Tigers. “Just trying to get the swelling out, and get that range of motion back. It feels much better than I thought it would today.”
