BALTIMORE -- It seems that Jackson Holliday's 2026 season may be over.
Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said prior to Monday's series opener vs. the Blue Jays at Camden Yards that Holliday is unlikely to play again during the team's final six games of the season. Baltimore hosts Toronto for three games this week, then concludes its schedule with a three-game set vs. the Yankees in New York.
Holliday was placed on the 10-day injured list last Wednesday (retroactive to last Tuesday) due to left wrist inflammation. The 22-year-old infielder met with a wrist specialist in Baltimore on Saturday.
Albernaz did not yet share what information came from that meeting, but more details on Holliday's injury are expected to be announced later this week.
"He's getting more looks and options of what's going on with the wrist," Albernaz said. "But we'll have more information probably end of the week, next couple days."
In his third big league season, Holliday hit .229 with 12 doubles, one triple, seven home runs, 30 RBIs and a .640 OPS in 98 games. He underwent right hamate surgery in mid-February and began the season on the IL, not making his 2026 debut until May 19.
The No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft and the former top prospect in baseball, Holliday has yet to fully reach his potential. However, the youngster has still shown plenty of promise and will look to continue to improve in '27.
The Orioles are expecting utility man Blaze Alexander (low back discomfort) to potentially return before the end of the season. The 27-year-old should get some starts at second, if that's the case.
With Holliday out, Jeremiah Jackson has gotten most of the starts at second, though José Barrero was there for Monday's opener vs. the Blue Jays.
Baltimore (75-81) is still trying to make an improbable run into the postseason. However, it entered Monday five games back of the third American League Wild Card spot with only six to play.
