Alex Jackson, the top prospect in the Mariners' system, is heating up. Jackson got off to a slow start and his average sat at just .138 after he went 0-for-6 on June 11.
A few days later and Jackson finds his average at a noticeably improved .200 after going 3-for-5 with a homer for Class A Clinton.
The outfielder, baseball's No. 86 overall prospect, drove in four runs and now has a hit in each of his last five contests.

• Another day, another hit for Austin Meadows (Pirates' No. 2). The No. 16 overall prospect went 2-for-3 for Double-A Altoona with a double and a homer and extended his hitting streak to 24 games in the process.

• Andrew Benintendi (Red Sox No. 3, No. 21 overall) began the year hitting at a torrid pace, but once he was promoted to Double-A Portland, he slowed down a bit. However, after going 2-for-4 with a stolen base for Portland, Benintendi now has two or more hits in four of his past six games and appears to be back on track.
• David Dahl (Rockies' No. 2, No. 41 overall) went 2-for-3 with a homer for Double-A Hartford and has now homered in each of the past two games. Dahl has hits in six of his last seven contests and is hitting .277 overall.

• Mets' No. 1 prospect Dominic Smith (No. 46 overall) has five RBIs over his last two games. The first baseman continued to have good at-bats for Binghamton, going 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.

• Runs are hard to come by when Phillies' No. 2 prospect Jake Thompson (No. 49 overall) is on the mound. After giving up one earned run in eight innings for Lehigh Valley, the right-hander has allowed just one run over his last three starts -- a span of 21 innings.
• Sean Reid-Foley is simply unhittable right now. The Blue Jays' No. 3 prospect has given up just one earned run over his last 20 innings, including seven scoreless frames for Dunedin on Thursday. Reid-Foley threw 65 of his 99 pitches for strikes, gave up two hits while striking out 12, a career-high.
• Mariners' No. 8 prospectBoog Powell recorded his fourth three-hit game and stole his 10th base in Triple-A Tacoma's 12-7 win over Salt Lake. Powell, who was traded from the Rays to the Mariners in December, is hitting .285 after going 3-for-4 with a double.
• Marlins' No. 9 prospectJake Esch put together a quality outing for Double-A Jacksonville, allowing one earned run in six innings. The right-hander walked one and struck out seven in what was a much-needed bounce back outing after he gave up five earned runs in four innings in his last start.

• Jason Garcia (Orioles' No. 9) fired a season-high 110 pitches, 68 strikes, in six scoreless innings for Double-A Bowie. The 23-year-old right-hander struck out six while giving up five hits and walking three.
• Pirates' No. 11 prospect Kevin Newman is making up for lost time. The shortstop went 4-for-4 with a homer on Wednesday, his second game back from the DL, and followed it up with a 2-for-3, five-RBI performance for Bradenton on Thursday.
• Perhaps this will be the start Clay Holmes (Pirates' No. 15) looks back on as the one that got him going. Holmes put together his best start of the season for Double-A Altoona as he struck out nine in six scoreless innings.
• Rangers' No. 14 prospect Ryan Cordell went 3-for-4 with a homer in Game 1 of Frisco's doubleheader. Cordell hit two homers on Tuesday and already has 14 this season.
• Gavin LaValley (Reds' No 26) had just one homer through his first 26 games of the year, but that didn't stop him from trotting around the bases twice in Daytona's 11-6 win over Brevard County. LaValley finished 2-for-5 with a trio of RBIs.
• After a pair of tough outings, Jairo Labourt (Tigers' No. 10) bounced back in a big way for Lakeland. The left-hander had totaled just five innings and surrendered 13 earned runs over his past two starts, but those struggles appeared to be in the past as Labourt gave up just four hits and one earned run in five innings against Tampa on Thursday.
• White Sox No. 3 prospect Spencer Adams threw a shutout for Class A-Advanced Winston-Salem on June 5 and he almost duplicated the feat Thursday. Adams was lifted after eight scoreless frames in which he struck out four and gave up just three hits.
