PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. -- No setbacks, no delays, no worries. Two days after skipping his scheduled bullpen session due to inner left leg soreness, Jacob deGrom climbed atop a mound Wednesday morning with no ill effects.
As a gaggle of coaches and teammates looked on, deGrom threw a routine bullpen session without restrictions.

"It was just a little sore," the right-hander said earlier this week. "I went in there and got it iced, and then they decided it was best just to take it easy."

That's a plan the Mets will continue to follow with deGrom and his rotation mates all spring. The Mets are wary of pushing any of their starting pitchers too hard following last season's World Series run; as such, they have drawn up plans to hold their regular starters back from the first week of Grapefruit League games.

DeGrom's workload increase was relatively mild compared to those of some of his teammates, jumping from 178 2/3 innings in his National League Rookie of the Year Award campaign to 216 between the regular season and playoffs last year. He finished 14-8 with a 2.54 ERA, making his first All-Star team in July.
