Legendary Dodgers broadcaster Jaime Jarrín and a host of stars hit the links for a good cause Monday at the inaugural Jaime and Blanca Jarrín Foundation charity golf tournament at San Gabriel Country Club outside Los Angeles.

Former MLB stars Chris Dickerson, Nomar Garciaparra and Adrián González and stars from across sports and entertainment, including former Lakers star and head coach Byron Scott, actor Ron Perlman and members of the LAFC soccer club, joined Jarrín on the course to raise funds to help economically disadvantaged youth pursue their dreams through higher education via scholarships. The foundation also funds existing educational programs throughout Southern California. Jarrín founded the charity this past June after the passing of Blanca, his wife of 65 years.

“It is for me a very special day today,” said Jarrín. “I thank God for the opportunity to do this. On behalf of my wife, Blanca Jarrín, thank you.”

Jarrín has been a beloved voice of the Dodgers since the club moved to Los Angeles in 1958, and he received the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s Ford C. Frick Award for broadcasting excellence in ’98. He credits Blanca Jarrín for inspiring his family to immigrate to the United States in ‘55.

“My wife was truly a remarkable woman,” said Jarrín, “who was a loving and generous partner. She empathized with her fellow immigrants, sharing a common dream, and often inspiring her three sons and three grandchildren. It was the world she created that allowed me to have the success we have enjoyed through the years. It never could have happened to this extent without her.”
