LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers added bullpen depth Tuesday by acquiring right-handed reliever Jaime Schultz from Tampa Bay for Minor League right-handed pitcher Caleb Sampen.
Schultz made 22 appearances (one start) with the Rays in 2018, going 2-2 with a 5.64 ERA, 35 strikeouts and 17 walks. In six Minor League seasons, the Albany, N.Y., native has a record of 22-17 with a 3.57 ERA.
The 27-year-old was originally selected by the Rays in the 14th round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of High Point (N.C.) University, when current Dodgers president Andrew Friedman ran the Rays.
Schultz was designated for assignment by the Rays last week. He had Tommy John surgery in 2011 while in college.
Sampen, 22, was 0-2 with a 5.04 ERA at Rookie-level Ogden. He was selected by the Dodgers in the 20th round of the 2018 Draft.
The Dodgers currently have 38 players on their 40-man roster.
