The last time Jacob Arrieta pitched at Dodger Stadium in the regular season, on Aug. 30, 2015, he carved his way through the Dodgers' lineup in a near-perfect performance. Arrieta's no-hitter that night served as the highlight of his superhuman second half, and all but cemented his status as the eventual National League Cy Young Award winner.
The last time Arrieta pitched at Dodger Stadium, period, Los Angeles tagged him for four runs in five innings in Game 3 of last year's National League Championship Series. So consider it a checkered history.

Now he's headed back there.
Arrieta's return to Chavez Ravine highlights a full Major League slate Friday night, as a slew of series open across the league to begin Memorial Day weekend. But none offer as much intrigue as this NLCS rematch from an October ago, for a variety of reasons.
As usual, this Cubs-Dodgers matchup features a ton of stars on both sides. But perhaps more importantly, this weekend will arrive as a high-octane challenge for two clubs who've had productive but pedestrian, by their standards, starts to this season.

Let's play two in Chicago: DET@CWS, 5:10 p.m
It's on the South Side, but still ... The White Sox and Tigers need to make up a postponed game from earlier in the spring, so fans in Chicago get access to a single-admission doubleheader. Lefty Matthew Boyd pitches for Detroit in the opener, and righty Mike Pelfrey pitches for the White Sox in Game 2, which will commence shortly after Game 1. The other probables are still to be determined.

One-pitch wonder: OAK@NYY, 7:05 p.m.
Athletics starter Kendall Graveman throws his sinking fastball more than all but just one other starter in baseball, essentially embarking on his second full Major League season with one pitch. Sound like anyone else you've heard of in the Bronx?
That's where Gravemen will be pitching Friday against the Yankees and Aaron Judge. New York counters with Masahiro Tanaka, who is looking to get back on track after a series of rough outings.

The Rockies may be the lead story so far this season. Notorious for struggling on the road, the Rockies are now excelling there, and riding that success toward an NL-best win total. Now they begin what should be a great series with the Cardinals, who appear to be contending once again in the suddenly crowded NL Central. Carlos Martinez (3-3, 3.28) takes the hill for St. Louis against super-rookie Antonio Senzatela (6-1, 3.67).
