CHICAGO -- White Sox reliever Jake Petricka underwent a nerve transposition in his right elbow Friday, according to information released by the team.
The procedure was performed by Dr. James Andrews, who also debrided the flexor tendon in Petricka's elbow. He will resume throwing in approximately three to four months.
Petricka, 29, saved 14 games and posted a 2.96 ERA over 67 games in 2014. He followed up that effort with a 3.63 ERA over 62 games in '15. But Petricka appeared in only nine games as part of the '16 campaign before undergoing season-ending surgery on June 10 to repair a labral tear in his right hip.
Although he appeared in 27 games during the '17 season, Petricka was once again bothered by injuries and finished with a 7.01 ERA and 39 hits yielded in 25 2/3 innings. Petricka recorded 26 strikeouts against six walks, but finished the season on the disabled list with a right elbow strain.
