The Braves made a series of moves this week to clear up space on their 40-man roster, including cutting ties with former top prospect Jarred Kelenic, who spent most of the season in Triple-A.
Kelenic, 26, was outrighted to Triple-A Gwinnett along with pitchers Alexis Díaz and Dane Dunning, catcher Sandy León and utilityman Luke Williams. Kelenic, Díaz, Dunning and Williams elected to become free agents.
The move marks the latest chapter in what's been a winding MLB career for Kelenic, who was drafted sixth overall by the Mets in 2018 before being traded to the Mariners that December in a deal that sent Robinson Canó and Edwin Díaz to New York.
Kelenic played just 24 games in the big leagues this season, batting .167 with two homers and a .531 OPS. His time in Triple-A didn't go much better. In 95 games with Gwinnett, he hit .213 with four homers and a .595 OPS.
In parts of five MLB seasons with Seattle and Atlanta, Kelenic has a .211 average with 49 homers and a .658 OPS. His best season came in 2023, when he had 11 homers and a .746 OPS in 105 games for the Mariners.
