This was the type of game that Yankees fans have been waiting for from The Martian.

Jasson Dominguez looked just as advertised on Tuesday as he collected three knocks -- falling a triple shy of a cycle -- while driving in a career-high four runs in Single-A Tampa's 12-11 defeat to Dunedin at TD Ballpark.

The third-ranked Yankees prospect flashed all five of his tools that made him one of the most hyped international signings in recent memory -- crushing a solo shot to the deepest part of the park, hammering a two-run double to left and even notching a productive out with an RBI groundout to second in the eighth after a seven-pitch at-bat. April 12: Dominguez's slow start continues
Jasson Dominguez went 1-for-4 with a single and a strikeout in the series opener against the Dunedin Blue Jays on Tuesday. Dominguez has started off his 2022 season slower than he'd like, hitting .235/.278/.294 with six strikeouts in 17 at-bats so far.

April 10: Dominguez strong in Sunday's game
Jasson Dominguez, the Yankees’ No. 3 prospect, per MLB Pipeline, went 2-for-5 with a single and a double, his first extra-base hit of the season, against the Lakeland Flying Tigers on Sunday. The 19-year-old center fielder mixed his two hits with a pair of strikeouts, which remains Dominguez's biggest weakness in the batters box. Dominguez should make his home debut at George M. Steinbrenner Field on Tuesday when Tampa begins its series against the Dunedin Blue Jays.

April 8: Starts 2022 on a positive note
Opening the year with the Single-A Tampa Tarpons, Jasson Dominguez started his second season with the club on a positive note, lacing a single, working a walk and scoring a run in a 1-for-4 night. The Yankees’ no. 3 prospect had decent numbers for his first season stateside in 2021, hitting .258 with a .744 OPS in 49 games with the Tarpons. The main point of concern for Domiguez last season were his strikeout numbers, striking out 67 times in 186 at-bats in Single-A. March 21: Dominguez named Yankees' No. 3 prospect
Before Dominguez signed with the Yankees for $5.1 million in July of 2019, he was already surrounded by otherworldly hype, with comparisons to Bo Jackson, Mickey Mantle and Mike Trout. He was nicknamed "The Martian" for his advanced set of tools for a teenager and made his professional debut in 2021. In 56 games -- 49 for the Single-A Tampa Tarpons -- Dominguez posted a .732 OPS with five home runs and 19 RBIs. Heading into 2022, the 19-year-old was named the Yankees' No. 3 prospect and the No. 61 prospect in baseball.

Feb. 23: Dominguez making his mark on Yankees minicamp
Not wanting to overload one of the most celebrated prospects in recent memory, Yankees staffers sometimes hesitate to add kindling to the Jasson Dominguez wildfire, recognizing that expectations are already sky-high for the switch-hitting wunderkind.

Those comparisons to Mickey Mantle, Mike Trout and Bo Jackson never seemed fair, voiced and printed before Dominguez faced so much as a single professional pitch. And yet -- when you watch (and hear) Dominguez barrel balls during a minicamp at the club’s Player Development complex, it’s impossible not to be excited about the 19-year-old’s future.

“I feel really good,” said Dominguez, who is rated as the Yankees’ No. 2 prospect and baseball’s No. 17 prospect by MLB Pipeline. “This camp has helped me a lot with what I’ve needed for the season.” Full story »
