CHICAGO -- Soon, Cubs fans can drive along Javier "Javy" Baez Way in Humboldt Park.
The Chicago City Council on Wednesday approved an ordinance presented by Alderman Roberto Maldonado of the 26th Ward to honor the Cubs' infielder by naming a street after him.
Maldonado introduced an ordinance in November for the honorary street sign on the west side of West Luis Munoz Marin Drive. Maldonado got the idea from his 11-year-old son.
"What an incredible Chicago Cubs second baseman, competitor and role model proudly representing Puerto Rico," Maldonado said in a Facebook post. "Javier Baez, you are our MVP!"
According to the Chicago Tribune, Javier "Javy" Baez Way would stretch along West Luis Munoz Marin Drive from Sacramento Avenue to Division Street, along Little Cubs Field -- a baseball diamond -- in Humboldt Park. Marin was the first elected governor of Puerto Rico.
The 24-year-old Puerto Rican infielder batted .318 in the National League Championship Series and was named co-Most Valuable Player, along with teammate Jonathan Lester.
No word yet on whether any of the other members of the World Series champion Cubs will have a thoroughfare named after them.
